Cavaliers cruise by Emmanuel College
ALBANY – Darton State had no troubles leaving Emmanuel College in its wake, Saturday, as the Cavaliers dominated a swimming and diving dual at home.
Darton had a combined team score of 288 to outscore Emmanuel by over 100 points. The Cavaliers won 23 of 26 events to score 159 points to Emmanuel’s 72, while the Lady Cavs scored 129 points to Emmanuel’s 99.
Despite being in the thick of intense winter training, Darton’s swimmers managed to crank out some fast times. Lady Cavalier Ashley Delgado won three events with a personal record time in the 200 free, the 100 free and the 500 free.
“Ashley has certainly been putting in the work at practice,” Darton State College head swimming coach Will Breehl said. “To get a lifetime best in all three events is especially great at this time of year.”
And sophomore JD Rosseau continues to dominate in the long distance events for Darton. The Columbus native took over the 1000 free and 500 free today.
“I didn’t think he was going to swim that fast,” Breehl said, “as we’ve been training pretty hard.”
Rosseau had no troubles taking the 1000-yard win, but was challenged in the 500 by Emmanuel’s Santi Aguilar, who trailed by 5 seconds in the final.
“That came from within,” Breehl said of Rosseau’s 500 victory. “He just decided to win this.”
Darton continued to look especially strong on the boards with defending national champions Crawford Berry and Sarah Hoop. The crowd grew noticeably quiet before each of Berry’s dives as he swept the 1- and 3-meter competitions with athletic prowess. Hoop, having led the 50 free in the pool, went on to win the 3-meter competition as well. Diver Kelsey Carniglia showed her ability as well and won the 1-meter competition.
