NJCAA ranks the Lady Cavaliers No. 20 in latest poll
Valid through: 12/07/2012
The NJCAA coaches poll determined Darton State College as the No. 20 women’s basketball program in the country.
The NJCAA released the poll after the Lady Cavs’ 100-15 blowout over Southern Crescent Technical College. Darton has picked up two wins since and is now 9-1 overall with an ongoing seven-game win streak.
The young team is averaging 80 points per game and entered the 2012-2013 season with only three returning sophomores and a host of new freshmen talent. Darton Head Coach Lea Henry said that her team will continue to develop as these younger athletes learn the Darton system.
Sophomores Michelle Mitchell and Chanteniece Fann are leading the way for the Lady Cavs, averaging 20 and 18 points per game, respectively. They are now joined by freshman standout Jasmine Wilson, who is also averaging 20 points per game.
Darton plays again Wednesday against conference rival South Georgia Technical College at 6 p.m., in the Cavalier Arena.
